STARK COUNTY, OH
Stark County is located in Northeast Ohio, south of Cleveland with Canton serving as the seat. It spans a total land area of 575 square miles, home to a population of roughly 380,000 people throughout a variety of cities, villages, townships and unincorporated communities.
The county was founded at the start of 1809, named for John Stark, a Revolutionary War general. Stark County played a large role in the development of professional football in the early 20th century. The Ohio League rose to prominence with the rivalry between the Massillon Tigers and Canton Bulldogs. Two large football stadiums remain in use to this day, mostly for high school football, and one of them Fawcett Stadium in Canton hosts the NFL’s annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. Stark County maintains an abundance of history, with more than 80 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
