ALLIANCE, OH
The city of Alliance, OH, is located some 20 miles northwest of Canton, mostly in Stark County with a smaller portion in neighboring Mahoning County. It covers nine square miles of land, home to a population of just over 22,000 people.
Alliance was founded in 1854 by the merger of three smaller communities, then incorporated as a city in 1889. Two major railroad lines once intersected in Alliance, creating “The Crossing.” Because the citys Main Street was designed to bring traffic to the train station, Alliance has been called “The town where Main Street is a dead end.” Alliance is also known as The Carnation City for giving Ohio its official state flower, the scarlet carnation. The city holds rich social, industrial and railroad history, hosting a number of historic attractions.
