NEW PHILADELPHIA, OH
The city of New Philadelphia, OH, serves as the seat of Tuscarawas County. Its located about 25 miles south of Canton along the Tuscarawas River. New Philadelphia covers 8.2 square miles of land, home to a population approaching 18,000 people.
New Philadelphia was laid out according to the design of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Early industry centered around mining and the manufacturing of steel and canned goods. By the time it was incorporated in 1833, there were county buildings, a printing office, various stores and five taverns. Today, a popular attraction in New Philadelphia is Tuscora Park, offering a carousel, train and other rides, plus miniature golf and batting cages. The city also houses a regional campus of Kent State University.
